deputy who shall reside in the third commissioner district, who shall
receive an annual salary of $3,000 and [$1,200] $1,700 annually for
expenses. He shall also appoint one deputy who shall reside in or
near the Town of Leonardtown whose principal duty shall consist of
policing said town, and he shall receive an annual salary of $3,000 and
[$1,200] $1,700 annually for expenses. In addition, the Sheriff may
appoint, with the approval and consent of the County Commissioners,
two deputies who shall be residents and citizens of St. Mary's County
and who shall police the entire county regardless of commissioner
districts and who shall each receive an annual salary of $3,000 and
[$1,200] $1,700 for expenses.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

(House Bill 937)
AN ACT to add new Section 17A to Article 56 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1960 Supplement), title
"Licenses", sub-title "Music Boxes", to follow immediately after
Section 17 thereof and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 19 (5) (b) of said Article of said Code, sub-title "Pinball
Machines and Console Machines", relating to license fees in Har-
ford County on music boxes, free play pinball and free play con-
sole machines.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 17A be and it hereby added to Article 56 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1960 Supplement),
title "Licenses", sub-title "Music Boxes", to follow immediately
Section 17 thereof and that Section 19 (5) (b) of said Article of
said Code, sub-title "Pinball Machines and Console Machines", be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and all
to read as follows:
17A. In addition to the provisions of Section 17 of this Article,
every person, firm or corporation keeping, maintaining or operating
for public entertainment in Harford County, any music box, me-
chanical player piano, graphophone, or other similar mechanical
musical device, except an amplifier, played by the insertion of a coin
or token, shall obtain an annual Harford County license therefor
from the clerk of the circuit court of Harford County, and shall pay
therefor the sum of $10.00 for each such machine or device. The clerk
shall issue the license in the name of the owner of the machine or
device, who shall display said license on the premises where the
machine or device is located. All licenses shall expire on the thirtieth
day of April of each, shall be transferable, and shall be prorated
quarterly. Any person, firm or corporation keeping, maintaining or
operating any such machine or device in Harford County without
such license, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction
thereof, shall be fined $100.00.
