to follow immediately after Section 158 thereof, and to be under
the new sub-title "Fortune Telling", making it a misdemeanor to
forecast the future for remuneration in Caroline County, and pre-
scribing a penalty for the conviction thereof.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 158A be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and
Punishments", to follow immediately after Section 158 thereof, and
to be under the new sub-title "Fortune Telling", and to read as
follows:
158A.
Fortune Telling
In Caroline County every person who shall demand or accept any
remuneration or gratuity for forecasting or foretelling of OR for pre-
tending to forecast or foretell the future of another by cards, palm-
reading or any other scheme, practice or device, shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be pun-
ished by a fine of not more than $100.00 or be imprisoned in the
county jail for a term of not more than six months, or both, in the
discretion of the court.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (r)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", relating to
the expense allowances for the deputy sheriffs of St. Mary's County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (r) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
37.
(r) The Sheriff of St. Mary's County shall receive an annual
salary of $3,300 and he shall be allowed in addition thereto the sum
of $1,700 for expenses. He shall appoint one deputy who shall reside
in the vicinity or area of Lexington Park who shall receive an annual
salary of $3,000 and [$1,200] $1,700 annually for expenses, and one
