CHAPTER 519
(House Bill 458)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 260 (c)
of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1960 Supple-
ment), title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Operation of Vehicles
Upon Highways", granting the Prince George's County Police
and/or the Maryland State Police, along with the Prince George's
County Superintendent of Schools, authority to approve the loca-
tion of school bus loading zones in that county.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 260 (c) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1960 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Operation
of Vehicles Upon Highways", be and is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

260.

(c) The driver of a school bus shall not pull off of the traveled
portion of a highway for the purpose of receiving and discharging
any school child or children, school teacher or school teachers, and
at the same time not activate his flashing stop signals, except in
school bus loading zones that have been constructed for this purpose,
after the location of the same have been approved by the superin-
tendent of schools in the county in which the school bus loading zone
is located, and the Maryland State Police, and further that these
school bus loading zones shall be restricted to locations where it will
not be necessary for any school child or teacher to cross the traveled
portion of the highway after being discharged, in order to reach
their destination. Provided, however, that in Prince George's County
the location of school bus loading zones shall be approved by the

of the Tax Collector. The bonds of such clerical assistants shall be
executed, paid for, approved and recorded in the same manner as
the bond of the tax collector [.] ; provided that the County Commis-

sioners, in their discretion, may obtain a blanket bond on all such

assistants in all other respects to be paid for, approved, recorded, and
conditioned as herein provided.

THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE HEREBY AUTHOR-
IZED TO PROVIDE A PUBLIC EMPLOYEES BLANKET BOND
FOR SUCH PURPOSES AND IN SUCH AMOUNTS AS MAY IN
THEIR DISCRETION SEEM NECESSARY TO ADEQUATELY
COVER THE COUNTY FUNDS HANDLED IN SAID TAX COL-
LECTOR'S OFFICE BY ALL CLERICAL EMPLOYEES IN SAID
OFFICE. THE AFORESAID BLANKET BOND SHALL IN NO
WISE COVER THE TAX COLLECTOR NOR RELIEVE HIM OF
THE NECESSITY OF FURNISHING THE BONDS OTHERWISE
PROVIDED FOR BY LAW.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
