CHAPTER 466
(House Bill 565)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 160-166, inclusive, of Article 48 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland, (1957 Edition), title "Inspections",

That Sections 10-15, 10-16 and 10-18 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Anne Arundel County (1957 Edition, being Article 2 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel
County", sub-title "Chapter 10. Fire Protection", sub-heading "Ar-
ticle II. Organization-Division 2. Enginemen", as amended by Chap-
ter 676 of the Acts of 1959, be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

10-15.

The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall appoint
and dismiss, upon the recommendation of the said Volunteer Fire

Companies, [ two] three enginemen for each of said companies, and
in addition thereto, the necessary relief enginemen to substitute for

the regular enginemen when the latter are off on vacation or sick,

as hereinafter provided. Any person recommended by said fire
companies for appointment as regular enginemen after January 1,
1954, shall be required to satisfactorily pass an examination con-
ducted by the Board of Fire Commissioners to determine his quali-
fications, provided that those
enginemen employed prior to January
1, 1954, shall be allowed to continue in such employment without
the necessity of passing such examinations. The
County Com-
m
issioners are hereby directed to levy a special tax in each election
district sufficient to pay the salaries of the engineman and relief
engineman of the several
Volunteer Fire Companies and to pay the
salary of each engineman and relief engineman.

10-16.

The salary for each engineman shall after [January 1, 1960 be
not less than $3,700.00] January 1, 1961 be not less than $4,080.00
$4,320.00 per year, payable in equal monthly installments.

10-18.

The County Commissioners, upon the recommendation of the
several Volunteer Fire Companies, shall appoint a relief engineman
for each of the several Volunteer Fire Companies to substitute for
the regular engineman when they are off on vacation or sick. The
pay of said relief engineman shall be computed at the annual rate
of [$2,900.00] $4,080.00 $4,320.00.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
