Whereas, In Section 145 of these local laws there are provisions
concerning the filling of vacancies in these offices which now are
superseded by Section 16 of Article 25 in the 1957 Edition of the
Annotated Code; and

Whereas, In Sections 146 and 160 of these local laws, there are
unnecessary and duplicating provisions concerning the powers and
duties of the County Commissioners; now, therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 142 and 143 of Article 10 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dorchester County", sub-
title "County Commissioners and Treasurer", Section 142 thereof
having been amended by Chapter 451 of the Acts of 1953, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments; and that
Sections 145, 146 and 160 thereof, be and they are hereby repealed,
all to read as follows:

142.    [At the general election to be held in Dorchester County on
the first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of November,
1917, there shall be no County Commissioners elected in Dorchester
County, and at the general election to be held in said county on the
first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of November, 1919,
there shall be but one County Commissioner elected in said county
for a term of six years, and at the general election to be held
in said county on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in Novem-
ber, 1921, there shall be two County Commissioners elected for said
county, each for a term of six years. And the said three County
Commissioners] There shall be three County Commissioners in Dor-
chester County, who
shall constitute the Board of County Commis-
sioners of said county [; and thereafter the number of County Com-
missioners of said county shall be three, each of them and the succes-
sor of each of them serving for six years from the date of their
election],

143.    There shall be three County Commissioner districts for
Dorchester County, [after the said election in November, 1917,] and
one of said three County Commissioners shall have charge of one
Commissioner District; the said Commissioner Districts shall be
composed of election districts as follows: Fork District or No. 1;
East New Market District or No. 2; Williamsburg District or No.
12; Hurlock District or No. 15; Vienna District or No. 3 and Link-
wood District or No. 14. Commissioner's District No. 2 shall be com-
posed of Cambridge or District No. 7, Neck or District No. 8, Draw-
bridge or District No. 11, Bucktown or District No. 13, Salem or
District No. 17, and District No. 9 or Church Creek. The Third Com-
missioner District shall consist of Madison or District No. 16, Tay-
lors Island or District No. 4, Hoopers Island or District No. 6, Lakes
or District No. 5, Straits or District No. 10 and Elliotts Island or
District No. 18.

[145. In case the office of any one or more of the County Com-
missioners for Dorchester County shall become vacant by death,
resignation or otherwise, the Governor of the State shall appoint a
proper person to fill such vacancy until the next general election, and
if the term of the Commissioner or Commissioners on account of
whose death, resignation or incapacity the office has become vacant,
be not then completed, a Commissioner shall be elected to serve for
the unexpired term caused by the said vacancy.]
