CHAPTER 21

(Senate Bill 34)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 159 of
Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Dorchester County", sub-title "County Commis-
sioners and Treasurer", as said section was amended by Chapter
13 of the Acts of 1939, correcting a reference in the local laws of
Dorchester County to the former November session of the grand
jury, this session now being held in October.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 159 of Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dorchester County", sub-title
"County Commissioners and Treasurer", as said section was amended
by Chapter 13 of the Acts of 1939, be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

159. The County Commissioners of Dorchester County shall, at
the end of each fiscal year, or oftener if it be deemed necessary, have
an audit made of the accounts of the Treasurer and Collector for
Dorchester County. Said audit shall show how much was appropri-
ated under each item of the budget and also how much was expended
under each item of said budget, and it shall show especially if any
item of said budget has been exceeded and how much. A copy of the
said audit shall be delivered by the Auditor to the Clerk of the
Circuit Court for Dorchester County, and the judge of the Circuit
Court who delivers the charge to the grand jury, at the [November]
October session thereof, in each year, shall call the attention of the
grand jury to the said report and shall state to the grand jury any
item of said budget that may be overdrawn and how much said item
has been overdrawn. The court shall also call the attention of the
grand jury to the penalty for expending money on any item of said
budget in excess of the amount levied for and stated in said budget.
An itemized statement of all expenditures of the County Commis-
sioners for Dorchester County shall be published every three months,
showing the expenditures for the preceding three months, in such
newspaper or newspapers having general circulation in Dorchester
County and the City of Cambridge, as said Commissioners shall de-
termine. The said itemized statement shall show the amount, to
whom paid and for what purpose each expenditure was made.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1961.
