(House Bill 547)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 46, 58 and 61 (e) of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Charles County (1959 Edition, being Article 9 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Charles
County", sub-title "County Commissioners", sub-headings "Physi-
cian's Memorial Hospital" and "Miscellaneous Appropriations",
and to enact a new Section 46, to stand in the place of the Sec-
tion 46 repealed, to repeal obsolete and conflicting provisions au-
thorizing appropriations to a hospital in Charles County and for
a resident physician thereof, and to authorize the County Com-
missioners to operate and maintain hospitals in the county directly
or by agreement with non-profit organizations.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 46, 58 and 61 (e) of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Charles County (1959 Edition, being Article 9 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Charles County", sub-title
"County Commissioners", sub-headings "Physician's Memorial Hos-
pital" and "Miscellaneous Appropriations", be and they are hereby
repealed, and new Section 46 be and it is hereby enacted to stand in
the place of the Section 46 repealed, and to read as follows:

46.

(a)   The County Commissioners of Charles County are authorized
to construct, maintain and operate a hospital or hospitals in said
County. The operation and control may be exercised through a
Board of Trustees appointed by the County Commissioners and the
said Commissioners may appropriate such sums as may be necessary
for the proper operation of said hospital facilities.

(b)   In lieu of the operation of a hospital as provided above, the
County Commissioners may enter into an agreement with any non-
profit organization whereby the operation of said hospital will be
delegated to said non-profit organization, using the buildings and
premises of the County Commissioners under such terms and con-
ditions as the parties may agree upon; and the County Commis-
sioners shall appropriate annually to the operating organization the
sum of $8,500. and such other sums as the County Commissioners
may deem necessary.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
