title "Charles County", sub-title "County Commissioners", sub-
heading "Amusement Devices", as last amended by Chapter 824
of the Acts of 1959, to provide additional duties for the license
clerk authorized under the Charles County slot machine law, and
to fix his salary CHANGE THE SALARIES OF THE LICENSE
CLERK AND THE LICENSE INSPECTOR.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 54 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Charles County
(1959 Edition, being Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Charles County", sub-title "County Commissioners",
sub-heading "Amusement Devices", as last amended by Chapter 824
of the Acts of 1959, be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

54. The County Commissioners shall appoint a License Clerk and
a License Inspector who, prior to assuming offices shall execute a
good bond, in the penalty of any amount which shall be fixed by the
County Commissioners, for the faithful performance of their duties
as License Clerk and License Inspector, and further conditioned
that they shall well and truly account for any pay over to the
person or persons or body corporate entitled thereto, any and all
money and property coming into their possession as License Clerk
and License Inspector, which bonds shall be approved by the County
Commissioners or a majority of them. The County Commissioners
may require the License Clerk and License Inspector to give as surety
in the bonds required of them by this section one of the corporations
authorized by the laws of this State to become surety on official
bonds, provided that in such case the said County Commissioners
shall pay the premiums or charges for such suretyships. Said License
Clerk shall serve at the pleasure of the said County Commissioners,
at such hours as they shall reasonably designate; and shall issue
all licenses provided for herein and collect all sums required to be
paid therefor. Sums collected shall be deposited in such banks as
said Commissioners shall designate to the credit of the County Com-
missioners as County funds.

[$2,400.00 shall be paid to said License Clerk, and] $3,000.00
$4,000.00 shall be paid to the License Inspector, hereinafter provided
for, as annual compensation for [their respective service] his serv-
ices, and an additional sum of $900.00 per year shall be paid to said
License Inspector for his expenses. Proportionate parts of the pay-
ments provided for in this sub-paragraph shall be made bi-monthly.

The license clerk shall perform such other duties as may be desig-
nated by the County Commissioners, and the County Commissioners
shall fix the compensation of the license clerk not to exceed $3,600.00
annually SHALL HAVE SUCH ANNUAL COMPENSATION AS
THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MAY FIX.

The County Commissioners shall appoint the aforementioned
License Inspector who shall serve at the pleasure of said County
Commissioners, and shall perform such duties as the County Com-
missioners require in connection with the enforcement and adminis-
tration of the provisions of this sub-heading. It shall be the duty of
the Inspector to make such investigations and conduct such examina-
tions of the records of licensees as will satisfy him that the provisions
of this sub-heading are being fully complied with by said licensees.
