(2) The State's Attorney may appoint one deputy State's At-
torney and three
FIVE assistant State's Attorneys. The deputy State's
Attorney's salary is forty-six hundred dollars ($4,600)
SIX THOU-
SAND DOLLARS ($6,000) PER ANNUM. The salary of one TWO
of the assistant State's Attorneys is thirty-six hundred dollars
($3,600)
SHALL BE AT SUCH COMPENSATION, NOT EXCEED-
ING FORTY-EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS ($4,800) PER AN-
NUM EACH, AS THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY DEEM
PROPER, TO BE PAID BY THE COUNTY ON THE CERTIFICA-
TION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY TO THE COUNTY COM-
MISSIONERS; and the salary of two THREE of the assistant State's
Attorneys is twenty-four hundred dollars ($2,400) each.
SHALL BE
AT SUCH COMPENSATION, NOT EXCEEDING THIRTY-SIX
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($3,600) PER ANNUM EACH, AS THE
STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY DEEM PROPER, TO BE PAID BY
THE COUNTY ON THE CERTIFICATION OF THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY TO THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

(3) The State's Attorney's allowance for expenses is fifteen hun-

dred dollars ($1,500). The deputy State's Attorney's allowance for

expenses is four hundred dollars ($400).

(3) THE SALARY OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, THE
DEPUTY STATE'S ATTORNEY AND THE ASSISTANT STATE'S
ATTORNEYS SHALL BE PAID IN EQUAL SEMI-MONTHLY
INSTALLMENTS. THE DEPUTY STATE'S ATTORNEY SHALL
PERFORM SUCH WORK AS MAY BE DIRECTED BY THE
STATE'S ATTORNEY, OR AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW AND,
UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, MAY
PRESENT CASES TO THE GRAND JURIES AND PERFORM
SUCH OTHER ACTS AND DUTIES IN RELATION TO THE
GRAND JURIES AND IN THE OPERATION OF THE OFFICE
AS ARE NECESSARY AND PROPER. THE SEVERAL ASSIST-
ANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS SHALL PERFORM SUCH WORK
AS MAY BE DIRECTED BY THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, OR AS
AUTHORIZED BY LAW.

(4) In addition, the State's Attorney may appoint a stenographer
to perform such stenographic and clerical duties as directed by the

State's Attorney. The stenographer's salary shall not be in excess

of four thousand dollars ($4,000), in the discretion of the Board of

County Commissioners.

(4) IN ADDITION, THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT
SUCH STENOGRAPHIC, CLERICAL AND OTHER ASSISTANTS
AS IN HIS JUDGMENT MAY BE NECESSARY FOR THE
PROPER CONDUCT OF HIS OFFICE, AT SUCH COMPENSA-
TION AS HE MAY DEEM PROPER, TO BE PAID BY THE COUN-
TY ON THE CERTIFICATION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY
TO THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. SUCH STENOGRAPHIC,
CLERICAL AND OTHER ASSISTANTS SHALL PERFORM
STENOGRAPHIC, CLERICAL AND OTHER WORK AS DIRECT-
ED BY THE STATE'S ATTORNEY.

(5) THE DEPUTY STATE'S ATTORNEY AND THE SEVERAL
ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS, AND ANY STENO-
GRAPHIC, CLERICAL OR OTHER ASSISTANTS, APPOINTED
BY THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, SHALL, BEFORE ENTERING
