general office expenses is three thousand dollars ($3,000). All these
expenses shall be paid on the submission of vouchers therefor to,
and after approval by, the Board of County Commissioners.
(4) The State's Attorney's special fund allowance for the cost
of making investigations is two thousand dollars ($2,000). Ex-
penditures from this allowance shall be accounted for to the Board
of County Commissioners at the end of each year, and any balance
remaining in the fund at the end of a fiscal year reverts to the
general fund of the county.
(p) Montgomery County.—In Montgomery County, (1) the State's
Attorney's salary is ten thousand dollars ($10,000) TWELVE THOU-
SAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($12,500).
(2) The State's Attorney may appoint a deputy State's Attorney
and four FIVE assistant State's Attorneys. The deputy State's Attor-
ney's salary shall be not less than six thousand dollars ($6,000), and
this compensation may be increased by the County Council in its dis-
cretion. The assistant State's Attorneys' salaries shall be not less
than forty-five hundred dollars ($4,500) each, and this compensation
may be increased by the County Council in its discretion.
(3) The State's Attorney and the deputy State's Attorney, or
either of them, shall present cases to the grand jury and perform
such other acts and duties in relation to the grand jury as are neces-
sary and proper. The salaries of the State's Attorney and of the
deputy and assistant State's Attorneys include such services as any
of them perform before or in behalf of the judges of the Circuit
Court, justices of the peace or judges of the People's Court of the
county in preliminary hearings or trials in criminal cases.
(4) The State's Attorney may appoint three clerks, at such salary
as may be fixed by the County Council.
(5) The State's Attorney may appoint a special investigator, who
shall be directly under the supervision of the State's Attorney and
perform such duties as the State's Attorney may designate from
time to time. The special investigator's salary shall be not less than
six thousand dollars ($6,000), and this compensation may be in-
creased by the County Council in its discretion.
(q) Prince George's County.—In Prince George's County, (1) the
State's Attorney's salary is seven thousand dollars ($7,000) FIF-
TEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($15,000) PER ANNUM. THE
STATE'S ATTORNEY, DURING HIS TERM OF OFFICE, SHALL
NOT, EXCEPT IN CONNECTION WITH AND IN THE PER-
FORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES AS SUCH STATE'S ATTORNEY,
APPEAR AS COUNSEL OR REPRESENT ANY PARTY PROFES-
SIONALLY BEFORE ANY COURT, MAGISTRATE, BOARD,
COMMISSION OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR ANY COUNTY
OR POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE. IT IS IN-
TENDED BY THE PROVISIONS HEREIN THAT THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY SHALL DEVOTE HIS TIME AND ATTENTION TO
THE DUTIES OF HIS OFFICE AS STATE'S ATTORNEY, AS
REQUIRED, AND SHALL NOT APPEAR PROFESSIONALLY
IN ANY COURT OR BEFORE ANY BOARD, COMMISSION OR
AGENCY FOR THE PRIVATE PRACTICE OF LAW DURING
HIS TERM OF OFFICE.
