lation to the grand jury and in the operation of the office as are
necessary and proper.
(3) The Board of County Commissioners shall provide an office
in the Courthouse for the State's Attorney. The Board shall pay the
expenses of the office, including general operating expenses, cost of
equipment, and the reasonable salary of a stenographer to be ap-
pointed by the State's Attorney.
(l) Garrett County.—In Garrett County, (1) the State's At-
torney's salary is twenty four hundred dollars ($2,400) THREE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000).
(2) The State's Attorney's allowance for postage, office and travel-
ing expenses is six hundred dollars ($600) TWELVE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($1,200).
(m) Harford County.—In Harford County, (1) the State's At-
torney's salary is six thousand dollars ($6,000) SEVEN THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($7,000).
(2) The State's Attorney, with the approval of the judge of the
Circuit Court for the county, may appoint an assistant State's At-
torney, to serve at the State's Attorney's pleasure. The assistant
State's Attorney's salary is three thousand dollars ($3,000). He has
the same legal powers as the State's Attorney to represent the
State before grand juries and in the trial of criminal proceedings.
(3) The Board of County Commissioners shall pay all reasonable
expenses for the conduct of the office of State's Attorney.
(n) Howard County.—In Howard County, (1) the State's At-
torney's salary is four thousand dollars ($4,000) SIX THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($6,000).
(2) The State's Attorney may appoint an assistant State's At-
torney, to serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney. The assist-
ant State's Attorney's salary is two thousand dollars ($2,000)
THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000). He has the same legal
powers as the State's Attorney to represent the State before the
grand jury and at the trial of criminal proceedings.
(3) The State's Attorney's allowance for office, traveling and other
expenses is one thousand dollars ($1,000).
(3) THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SHALL PROVIDE THE
STATE'S ATTORNEY WITH AN APPROPRIATE OFFICE AND
SUCH STENOGRAPHIC AND SECRETARIAL SERVICES AS
MAY BE NECESSARY.
(o) Kent County.—In Kent County, (1) the State's Attorney's
salary is four thousand dollars ($4,000).
(2) The State's Attorney may employ a deputy or assistant, who
shall be a member of the local bar in good standing and who shall
be paid by the State's Attorney out of his salary.
(3) To and including the year 1962, the State's Attorney's allow-
ance for clerical hire is eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800) and his
allowance for rental expenses and general office expenses is twelve
