(1960 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," sub-title "Compensation and
Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

37.

(p) The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall receive an annual
salary of [$5,000] $6,000 and $3,000 per year for operation and
maintenance of his automobile during his term as Sheriff, for the
use and work of his office within said county, without any additional
cost to the county. He may appoint such deputies and assistants as
he may deem necessary and a stenographer and at such compensa-
tion as he shall fix but the compensation of all such deputies and
assistants and a stenographer shall not exceed [$31,400] $37,500.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing herein relating to
raising the salary of the Sheriff of Prince George's County shall
apply to the present incumbent of that office during the term which
he is now serving, but that the same shall apply to the salary of the
Sheriff of Prince George's County on and after the next election for
that office; the provisions herein relating to the compensation of
the deputies, and assistants and a stenographer of the Sheriff of
Prince George's County shall become effective immediately upon the
effective date of this Act.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

CHAPTER 837
(House Bill 671)

AN ACT to add new Section 104 (h) to Article 52 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace",
sub-title "Trial Magistrate's System", to follow immediately
after Section 104 (g) thereof, prescribing a flat fee to be paid in
any criminal case, other than motor vehicle violations, in Caroline
County, and relating to the application of such fees.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 104 (h) be and it hereby added to Article 52 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Justices of
the Peace", sub-title "Trial Magistrate's System", to follow imme-
diately after Section 104 (g) thereof, and to read as follows:

104.

(h) In Caroline County, in any criminal case before a trial magis-
trate, other than motor vehicle violations, the total costs for both
