missioners of Prince George's County AND TO PROVIDE FOR
APPOINTMENT OF AN ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 464 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1953 Edition, being Article 17 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's County",
sub-title "County Commissioners", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
464.
(A) There shall be five county commissioners for Prince George's
County, elected for a term of four years, and they shall be known
by the corporate style of "County Commissioners for Prince George's
County", hereinafter referred to as the board. The said Board shall
elect a presiding officer to serve during his term of office and shall
devote his full time to the duties of his office, and AND HE SHALL
NOT ENGAGE IN ANY BUSINESS OR PROFESSION, FOR
EARNED INCOME, DURING HIS TERM OF OFFICE AS
SUCH PRESIDING OFFICER; HE shall have, subject to the
direction of and review by the Board, administrative super-
vision over all departments and employees of the County govern-
ment. Until December 4, 1962, the presiding officer shall receive an
annual salary of seven thousand five hundred dollars and each of
the other four commissioners shall receive an annual salary of three
thousand six hundred dollars, as full compensation for their official
duties as commissioner or in any ex officio capacity; and, after Decem-
ber 4, 1962, the presiding officer shall receive an annual salary of
twelve thousand five hundred ($12,500.) dollars, and the vice chair-
man shall receive an annual salary of ten thousand ($10,000.00)
SEVEN THOUSAND ($7,000.00) Dollars and each of the other
[four] three commissioners shall receive an annual salary of [fifty-
six hundred ($5600.00] eight SIX thousand five hundred ($8,500.)
($6,500.) dollars, as full compensation for their official duties as
commissioner or in any ex officio capacity, but shall not be entitled
to receive any further or other allowance or expense money.
The presiding officer shall be designated as the president,
but may adopt the title of chairman for any purpose for which the
use of such title is appropriate. County Commissioners shall take
office on the first Tuesday of December following their election. Until
December 4, 1962, but not thereafter, in addition to the annual
salary authorized by this section, the presiding officer shall receive
one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) and each of the other four commis-
sioners shall receive five hundred dollars ($500.00). Such; AND,
UNTIL DECEMBER 4, 1962 THEY SHALL BE ENTITLED TO
SUCH allowances or compensation for expenses incident to their re-
spective duties as the Board of County Commissioners of said county
shall provide by resolution, or resolutions, for services to be per-
formed by them, or any one of them, respectively, for attending
additional or special meetings, conferences or official functions and
performing additional or special duties or departmental or adminis-
trative supervision assignments or liaison supervision for the county
with bi-county agencies or other governmental agencies or organi-
zations and any other special functions, in connection with their
official duties or ex officio duties, as may be provided in such resolu-
tion or resolutions; Provided that such resolution, or resolutions,
