Maryland), title "Prince George's County", sub-title "Fire Com-
panies", providing certain restrictions on the organization of fire
company or rescue squads in Prince George's County and requiring
that new organizations be approved by the Prince George's County
Volunteer Firemen's Association, Incorporated.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 650 (c) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1953 Edition, being Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's County", sub-title
"Fire Companies", be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
650.
(c) Before the County Commissioners shall be required to pay the
aforesaid sum of money to the said Firemen's Association, the Com-
missioners shall have the power to require the officers of said Asso-
ciation to appear before them and show to the satisfaction of said
Commissioners that all sums of money heretofore paid by the said
Commissioners to the said Association under this sub-title have been
expended for the purposes set forth herein, and also that all member-
companies or other companies receiving payment under this Act
in accordance with prescribed standards of the said Firemen's Asso-
ciation, are active fire fighting or rescue organizations with apparatus
and equipment in proper working order; provided, however, that no
fire company nor rescue squad not now [in] existing and/or of
record in the said Association as of January 1, [1953,] 1961 may be
organized or recognized in Prince George's County without the ap-
proval of the Prince George's County Volunteer Firemen's Associa-
tion, Incorporated and the Board of County Commissioners of the
County jointly; and provided further that such rescue squads are
organized, maintained, and operated by or as auxiliaries to recognized
volunteer fire companies of Prince George's County; AND PROVID-
ED THAT ANY SUCH FIRE COMPANY OR RESCUE SQUAD
RECEIVING MONEY FROM COUNTY TAX SOURCES AS OF
JANUARY 1, 1961 SHALL BE DEEMED ORGANIZED AND
RECOGNIZED AS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE MONIES UNDER
THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
