Section 63A to 63I of the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany
County (1955 Edition) subtitle "Classified Service" and the persons
holding these positions as of January 1, 1961, providing they shall
have held these positions for not less than six months prior to Jan-
uary 1, 1961,
AND WHETHER SUCH PERSONS WERE PREVI-
OUSLY DESIGNATED AS CONSTABLES, CLERKS OR OTHER-
WISE FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION shall automatic-
ally be employees of the Classified System and entitled to all the rights
and privileges thereof.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

CHAPTER 677

(House Bill 974)

AN ACT to add new Section 164 to Article 19 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County",
to immediately precede Section 165 thereof and to be under the
new sub-title "Peddlers", Section 164 having been repealed by
Chapter 929 of the Acts of 1945, to license and regulate the busi-
ness of itinerant, door-to-door peddling of goods, wares or mer-
chandise in St. Mary's County and to provide penalties for vio-
lations.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 164 be and it is hereby added to Article 19 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "St.
Mary's County", to immediately precede Section 165 thereof and to
be under the new sub-title "Peddlers", Section 164 having been re-
pealed by Chapter 929 of the Acts of 1945, and to read as follows:

Peddlers

(a)  It is unlawful for any person to conduct the business of or act
as an itinerant or door-to-door peddler or salesman of goods, wares
or merchandise, either by sample or otherwise, in St. Mary's County
unless he has secured and holds a current license as such, issued upon
application by the sheriff of the county.

(b)   The sheriff shall prepare and have available application forms
for a peddler's license, containing such provisions and information
as in the opinion of the sheriff may be necessary to keep a proper and
complete listing of the persons in St. Mary's County who are engaged
in this occupation from time to time. The license shall be issued upon
application at a cost of two dollars ($2.00) for each year; and the
cost shall not be prorated for portions of a year. The license year
begins as of January 1.

(c)   Nothing in this section shall be construed or used 'to apply to
any person who is going from door-to-door in any activity or enter-
