the amount thereof.
507C.
The County Commissioners of Talbot County shall provide the
Sheriff and his deputies with an office at the Court House COUNTY
JAIL and shall furnish heat, light, telephones, books, stationery, type-
writers, files, postage stamps and all other supplies AND EQUIP-
MENT necessary for said office. The County Commissioners shall
provide the Sheriff with necessary transportation, and may SHALL
MAY purchase an automobile MAINTAIN AND INSURE A VE-
HICLE OR VEHICLES AND SUCH EQUIPMENT AND AUTOMO-
TIVE COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT to serve this purpose.
THOSE PURPOSES. Prior approval of the County Commissioners
must be granted before the purchase of any such automobile or office
equipment AND SUCH VEHICLES SHALL NOT LEAVE THE
COUNTY EXCEPT ON OFFICIAL BUSINESS.
507D.
The County Commissioners of Talbot County shall appropriate
whatever monies are necessary for matron service in managing the
domestic economy of the jail and for a cook of the jail. The County
Commissioners shall pay directly the actual costs of food, necessary-
clothing, laundry, etc., AND ALL OTHER NECESSARIES for
prisoners of the jail. If the County Commissioners feel such
expenditures are too great, they may establish maximum limits
for such. No allowance for such expenditures made by or
for the Sheriff, shall be paid or credited to the said Sheriff or
for his account unless the same shall be reported under oath to the
County Commissioners each month in writing, which oath shall show
all the expenditures and that they are correct and have been hon-
estly and lawfully incurred under each of the provisions as above
set forth, and that the Sheriff himself has not derived any profit from
the purchase thereof, that each expenditure and purchase was rea-
sonable and necessary and the price thereof was not in excess of
the market price, which said report and affidavit shall be accom-
panied by properly itemized vouchers or certificates showing to whom
and for what purpose the same were made. It shall be the duty of
the Sheriff to keep a book at the county jail in which he shall keep
a correct and full statement or schedule of all prisoners committed
to his custody, showing by what authority, the offense charged, the
time when received and the time of discharge, which statement or
schedule, together with all books, papers and commitments kept by
him pertaining to prisoners in the jail shall at all times be open to
the inspection of the County Commissioners, State's Attorney and
Grand Jury, and should the Sheriff neglect or refuse to keep said
book or comply with any of the duties which he is hereby required to
perform, he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to indict-
ment, and upon conviction thereof he shall be fined a sum not exceed-
ing One Hundred Dollars ($100.00). ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS
($1,000.00).
