Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (t) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1960 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

37.

(t) In Talbot County the Sheriff shall receive and annual salary of
[$1,800] $5,500 and he may receive no other money or compensation,
directly or indirectly, from the county or any other political sub-
division.
He may appoint, subject to the approval of the County
Commissioners of the county, such deputies as he may deem neces-
sary and at such compensation as [he may fix, subject to approval
of] the County Commissioners of the County may fix prior to such
appointment. These shall be continuing powers.
[, but the compen-
sation of all such deputies shall not exceed, in the aggregate, ten
thousand dollars ($10,000.00) per annum.] Provided further that
in Talbot County there shall always be night personnel attached to
the Sheriff's office and the office shall be operated on a 24-hour daily
basis.

Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That new Sections 507 A through
507F, inclusive, be and they are hereby added to Article 21 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Talbot
County", sub-title "Sheriff", to follow immediately after Section 507
thereof, and to read as follows:

507A.

All fees and charges in civil and criminal cases to which the Sheriff
may now be entitled by law, shall hereafter be collected for and
paid to the Treasurer for said Talbot County in the following man-
ner: The Clerk of the Circuit Court for Talbot County shall in all
criminal cases and in all civil cases, both at law and in equity, insti-
tute in said Circuit Court, collect all costs taxable in said cases

OR for the benefit of the said Sheriff and pay over the same to the
Treasurer of Talbot County, together with an itemized statement
thereof, quarterly, on January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st
in each and every year; and the Clerk of the People's
TRIAL MAGIS-
TRATE'S Court for Talbot County shall, in all cases, civil and crim-
inal, instituted in said Court, collect, the fees and costs taxable
FROM
OR for the benefit of the Sheriff and pay over the same to the Treas-
urer of Talbot County at the end of each month, together with an item-
ized statement thereof. All of such collected fees and costs shall also
be accounted for to the County Commissioners of Talbot County.

PROVIDED FURTHER THAT THE SHERIFF SHALL BE RE-
SPONSIBLE FOR SERVICE OF ALL MAGISTRATE COURT
PROCESS IF AND WHEN DIRECTED BY RESOLUTION OF
THE COMMISSIONERS OF TALBOT COUNTY.

507B.

At the time of rendering his monthly account for expenses the
Sheriff shall make to the County Commissioners a full and detailed
report of any and all fees collected by him in the discharge of his
official duties for the preceding month, the said report to be under
