Section 112 (a) of this article, with regard to committing magis-
trates, and in Charles County they shall receive the sum of $600.00
annually; but they may retain all fees lawfully charged by them for
taking acknowledgments or affidavits unrelated to their civil or
criminal jurisdiction. Committing magistrates in Charles County
shall receive an annual salary of $2,500.00. Committing magistrates
in Calvert County shall each receive an annual salary of three hun-
dred dollars ($300.00).

(e) In Calvert County, the substitute trial magistrate shall receive
an annual salary of five hundred dollars ($500.00).

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That Section 88 (c) of Article
27 of the said Code, title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "De-
sertion of Wife or Child", be and it is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, to read as follows:

88.

(c) Provided that in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Caroline, Carroll,
Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Montgom-
ery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, St. Mary's, Somerset, Talbot,
Kent and Worcester counties, the trial magistrates shall have con-
current jurisdiction with the circuit court of each of the respective
counties to try persons violating the provisions of this sub-title. And
further provided, that in Allegany County the justice of the peace,
known as the magistrate for juvenile cases, shall have concurrent
jurisdiction with the Circuit Court for said county to try persons
violating the provisions of this sub-title and that imprisonment of
offenders shall not exceed two years.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this
Act shall not be construed to extend or apply to the trial magistrate
in office on the effective date of this Act, but shall take effect with
the next term of office.

Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
