narian or any other individual who may be licensed to dispense
drugs or AND who is or shall become addicted to the drug habit.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 293 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Health-
Narcotic Drugs", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

293. (a) On the conviction of any person of the violation of any
provisions of this sub-title, a copy of the judgment and sentence,
and of the opinion of the court or magistrate, if any opinion be filed,
shall be sent by the clerk of the court, or by the magistrate, to the
board or officer if any, by whom the convicted defendant has been
licensed or registered to practice his profession or to carry on his
business. And such board or officer shall have the power to revoke
such license or registration. A duplicate copy of the judgment and
sentence and opinion, if any opinion be filed, shall be sent to the State
Department of Health.

(b) Any physician, dentist, pharmacist or veterinarian or any
other individuals
INDIVIDUAL or groups GROUP who may be
licensed to dispense drugs
who is or shall have become addicted to the
drug habit shall either have his license suspended or revoked by the
board under which he has been licensed. The Board shall have author-
ity to suspend the execution of the order of suspension or revocation
and place the licensee on probation upon the condition that another
licensed physician, dentist, pharmacist or veterinarian, as the case
may be, shall be responsible for such licensee and report to the board
at such times as the board shall require and on such further condi-
tions as the board shall direct,
until such time as such physician,
dentist, pharmacist or veterinarian shall offer satisfactory proof to
the State Board of Health of having become cured of such habit.
Upon any relapse from any such cure the license of such physician,
dentist, pharmacist or veterinarian shall become permanently re-
voked by the board under which he has been licensed.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
