C H A P. XI.
An ACT to prevent the going at large of fwine within five miles
of the city of Baltimore, in Baltimore county.
Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That from and after
the firft day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand feven hun-
dred and ninety-eight, no fwine fhall be fuffered to go at large within five
miles of the city of Baltimore, and if any perfon fhall find on his land, or on
any land in his poffeffion, lying within five miles of the faid city, any fwine, it
fhall and may be lawful for him any fuch fwine to kill or impound, or caufe to
be killed or impounded.

II. And be it enacted, That if any perfon fhall be fued for killing or im-
pounding any fwine found upon his land, or on any land in his poffeffion, the
defendant may plead the general iffue, and give this act and the fpecial matter in
evidence; provided, that nothing in this act fhall be conftrued to extend to or
prevent any fwine going at large in Anne-Arundel county.

C H A P. XII.
An ACT to empower the levy court of Harford county to affefs
and levy a fum of money for the purpofe therein mentioned,
WHEREAS Thomas Shewell, of Harford county, by his petition to
this general affembly hath fet forth, that he is an extreme poor man,
and that he hath a fon, who has for a considerable time been afflicted
with lunacy, and is unable to fupport his family with the incumbrance of faid
lunatic, and praying that a law may pafs to provide for the fupport of his faid
fon out of the poor-houfe; and the prayer of faid petition appearing reafonable,
therefore.

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the juftices
of Harford county fhall be and they are hereby directed and empowered, at their
levy courts annually, as long as they may fee caufe, to affefs and levy on faid
county a fum of money, not exceeding forty dollars, for the fupport and main-
tenance of the faid fon of the faid Thomas Shewell aforefaid, and that the fame
be collected and paid annually to the aforefaid Thomas Shewell by the collector
or collectors of Harford county, agreeable to the order of the levy court aforefaid.

C H A P. XIII.
An ACT to authorife and empower the levy court of Saint-Mary's
county to affefs and levy annually a fum of money for the fup-
port of Elizabeth Goodrick.

WHEREAS Mary Goodrick, of Saint-Mary's county, by her petition
to this general affembly hath fet forth, that fhe is a very poor widow,
and hath the misfortune to have one of her fix children, named
Elizabeth Goodrick, born an idiot; that fhe, the faid idiot, is feventeen years
old, incapable of doing any kind of labour, and requires one perfon conftantly
to attend her, and praying a law may pafs authorifing and empowering the levy
court of Saint-Mary's county to affefs and levy annually a fum of money for the
fupport of her faid daughter; and the facts appearing to be true,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the juftices of
the peace of Saint-Mary's county, at their levy court, fhall have full power and
authority, and they are hereby directed and required, annually to affefs, (fo long
as they fhall fee caufe,) on the affeffable property of faid county, a fum not ex-
ceeding forty dollars lor any one year, which faid fum, fo levied and affeffed,
