SEC. 3. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1962.

CHAPTER 123
(Senate Bill 96)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 667 to 710, inclusive, of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1961 Supplement),
title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Department of Cor-
rection", and to enact new Sections 667 to 704 in lieu thereof, to
stand in the place of the sections so repealed, generally revising and
changing the laws concerning the Department of Correction, its
officers and employees, the Board of Correction, and the several
penal AND REFORMATORY institutions and agencies there-
under; abolishing the Board of Correction as such and forming it
into a Supervisory AN ADVISORY Board; placing active admin-
istration and control of the Department of Correction under a new
official known as the Commissioner of Correction; providing gen-
erally for the operation, administration and control of the De-
partment of Correction, the several penal AND REFORMATORY
institutions and agencies thereunder and the officers and employees
thereof; making provision for the custody, control over and work
of persons confined in penal AND REFORMATORY institutions
in this State; and relating general to the Department of Correc-
tion in this State, its officers, employees, powers, duties, responsi-
bilities, functions and prisoners within its jurisdiction and control.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 667 to 710, inclusive, of Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1961 Supplement), title "Crimes
and Punishments", sub-title "Department of Correction", be and they
are hereby repealed; and that new Sections 667 to 704 be and they
are hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the sections
so repealed; and all to read as follows:

Department of Correction

667. The Department of Correction is established and continued
as the same Department of Correction hitherto existing. It has the
powers, duties, responsibilities, and functions provided in this sub-
title and elsewhere in the laws of this State. Hereafter in this sub-title
the Department of Correction may be referred to as "The Depart-
ment" or "Department".

668. (a) The Department has title to and possession of all the
property (real, personal, and mixed) existing and previously ac-
quired by the Department of Correction and any institution or
agency thereunder, or which may be acquired by the Department
