Orphans' Courts of the State have authority to order a sale of the
property*, AND TO AUTHORIZE, IN DETERMINING THE
VALUE OF SUCH REAL ESTATE, RELIANCE UPON THE
APPRAISEMENT THEREOF FILED FOR INHERITANCE
TAX PURPOSES.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 319 (a) AND SECTION 321 of Article 93 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Testamentary
Law", sub-title "Sales", be and & is THEY ARE hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

319.

(a) The orphans' courts of the State shall have concurrent juris-
diction with the several circuit courts of this State, as courts of
equity, with like powers to adopt rules and regulations, so as to
authorize and direct the sales of real estate of intestates or testates,
where the appraisal value of said real estate shall not exceed the
sum of '[twenty-five hundred dollars] fifteen thousand dollars
($15, 000),
and to conform and ratify said sales in the same manner
as such sales are confirmed and ratified by the several circuit courts
of the State, as courts of equity.

321. FOR THE PURPOSE OF ASCERTAINING THE VALUE
OF SAID REAL ESTATE, THEY ARE HEREBY AUTHORIZED
TO RELY ON THE APPRAISEMENT OF SUCH REAL ESTATE
THERETOFORE OR THEREAFTER FILED FOR INHERIT-
ANCE TAX PURPOSES; AND IF SAID APPRAISEMENT
SHOULD EXCEED THE SUM OF FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOL-
LARS ($15, 000) THE SAID ORPHANS' COURT SHALL NOT
PROCEED TO ORDER SAID SALES.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1962.

tated Code of Maryland (1961 Supplement), title "Alcoholism",
and to enact in lieu thereof new Sections 2, 3 and 4, to stand in
the place of the sections so repealed, creating a State Commission
on Alcoholism, providing for its membership and the tenure of its
members, relating to the powers and duties of the Commission,
making provision for the staff and employees thereof, and relat-
