surgical instruments, rubber goods, paper goods, drugs, medicines,
patent medicines, and all other articles used for the relief of pain or
prescribed by a physician; provided, however, that nothing in this
sub-title shall be construed to prevent the operation of any retail
establishment on Sunday, the operation of which does not entail the
employment of more than one person, not including the owner or
proprietor. Every market or department store in which stalls or
departments are rented or concessions given to individual merchants
or vendors shall be considered as one establishment and each stall
or department thereof is not a separate establishment.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1962.

CHAPTER 14
(House Bill 10)
AN ACT to add a new Section 148A to the Code of Public Local
Laws of Allegany County (1955 Edition, being Article 1 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Allegany County, "
sub-title "Fire Companies, " to follow immediately after Section
148 thereof, authorizing the County Commissioners of Allegany
County to pay an extra sum of money annually to certain fire
departments, fire companies and hose companies therein, and
providing generally for the amount and the terms and condi-
tions of any such payments.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 148A be and it is hereby added to the Code of
Public Local Laws of Allegany County (1955 Edition, being Article
1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Allegany
County, " sub-title "Fire Companies, " to read as follows:

In addition to the amounts provided in Section 147, to be paid
to the several fire departments, fire companies, and hose companies,
the County Commissioners may pay an extra sum not to exceed
five hundred dollars ($500. 00) annually to each department and
company except the Cumberland Hose Company. Payments under
this section shall be equal and uniform for all the departments and
companies. The provisions of Section 148 apply to any payments
made under the provisions of this section.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immedi-
