CHAP. XII.

Paffed De-
cember 24.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the relief of the poor
of Calvert county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS the provifions contained in the original act to which this is
a fupplement, patted at November feffion, feventeen hundred and
ninety, have not been carried into effect ;

Juftices to le-
vy money,
&c.

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the juftices of
the levy court of the faid county for the time being, fhall and they are hereby
authorifed and empowered to affefs and levy, in equal proportions, on the proper-
ty within the faid county liable to affeffment, at the time of laying the county
rate, a fum not exceeding two hundred and fifty pounds in each of the years
feventeen hundred and ninety-fix, feventeen hundred and ninety-feven, and feven-
teen hundred and ninety-eight, together with the collector's commiffion of fix
per cent, thereon for collecting the fame, which fhall be collected and paid for
the purpofes required by the ad: to which this is a fupplement.

III. And be it enacted, That for the time being the feveral perfons hereafter
named be and they are hereby appointed truftees of the poor within the faid coun-
ty; that is to fay, Meffieurs Walter Smith, John Somervell, John Rawlings,
Benjamin Hance, Jeffe Jacob Bourne, Thomas Jenkins and Thomas H. Lyles,
which perfons, or the major part of them, in cafe of the death or abfence of any
of them, are hereby required, with all convenient fpeed, to meet at fuch place
within their county as to them fhall feem proper, to qualify themfelves for the
office of truftees for the poor of their county, by taking and fubfcribing the
feveral oaths or affirmations required by the original law to which this is a fup-
plement.

IV. And be it enacted, That after the expiration of the faid three years the
juftices of Calvert county levy court aforefaid for the time being, fhall and
they are hereby empowered to affefs and levy, on the affeffable property in faid
county, at the time of laying the county rate, a fum not exceeding five fhillings
on every hundred pounds of property as aforefaid in the faid county, together
with the collector's commiffion for collecting the fame; which faid affeffment
fhall be made, levied, collected and paid, in the fame manner as is directed by
the original act.

V. And be it enacted, That every claufe, matter and thing, which is contain-
ed in the original act, not inconfiftent with or repugnant to this ad, fhall be and
remain in as full force and effect, to all intents and purpofes, as if the fame had
been acted under at the time required thereby.

CHAP. XIII.

Paffed De-
cember 24.

An ACT to furvey, continue and extend, certain ftreets therein
mentioned, lying in the additions to George-town, in Mont-
gomery county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS John Threlkeld, William Deakins, junior, Uriah Forreft,
Charles Beatty, George Thompfon, Benjamin Stoddert, James M.
Lingan, Charles Worthington, John Crookfhank, James Calder,
Thomas Afflick, Francis Lowndes, Henry Lunt, Adam Murray Stewart, Walter
S. Chandler, Jofeph Forreft, Francis Lewis Taney, John Templeman, Charles
Lowndes, Anthony Gofzler, John Gofzler, Ifaac Dawes, Philip Abert, Theo-
dorus Kraws, George Fenwick, Francis Neale, Bernard Medley, Robert Moli-
neux, William Robertfon and John Davidifon, proprietors of certain lots in Beat-
ty and Hawkin's addition to George-town, in Montgomery county, have, by
their petition to this general affembly, prayed for the continuation and extenfion of
Firft-ftreet, Second-ftreet, Third-ftreet, Fourth-ftreet, Fifth-ftreet, Sixth-ftreet,
Seventh-ftreet and Eighth-ftreet, in faid addition, and Fayette-ftreet in John
Threlkeld's addition to faid town, as a meafure of great public utility and con-
venience; and it appearing to this general affembly that to extend and continue
