arifmg out of the funds, and fhould this ftill prove inadequate, the refidue fhall
be paid out of the depofites, and be again replaced agreeably to the twentieth ar-
ticle, annually; and if it fhould ever happen that a lofs occafioned by any fingle
fire fhall amount to more than the company's whole ftoek, in that cafe the fe-
veral fufferers infured in this office fhall receive, towards making good their re-
fpective loffes, a juft and proportionable dividend of the faid whole ftock only,
according to the fums by them refpectively infured; previous to which diftribu-
tion the directors fhall call a fpecial meeting of the fociety, for the purpofe
of giving an opportunity to thofe who think proper to remove their depofites.
ART. 14. That the directors for the time being fhall, with all convenient expe-
dition after any lofs fhall be fuftained, fettle a rate of contribution, and fet up the
fame in their public offices, and publifh it in one or more of the public news-
papers, and in fuch other manner as they fhall think fit; and fuch rates fhall be
fettled and approved by a major part at leaft of the directors, at two fucceffive
weekly meetings; and all and every the members of this fociety refpectivelv, lhall
be obliged to pay into the hands of the treafurer, his, her and their proportion-
able parts and fhares of all and every fuch rate and rates, within thirty days next
after fuch publication of the fame refpectively, as aforefaid, and in default of fuch
payment, he, fhe and they, and every of them, making fuch default, fhall forfeit
double the faid rates, and neglecting to pay the faid forfeitures ten days more,
fhall or may, by the directors for the time being, be excluded and debarred all
benefit and advantages of his, her and their infurance and infurances refpective-
ly, and from all his, her and their right to, and intereft in, the ftock of the
fociety, and fhall, notwithftanding, be liable to the payment of the faid rates,
purfuant to his, her or their covenants and engagements in thefe prefents contain-
ed and expreffed. ART. 15. In cafe any member or members of this fociety
fhall affign or transfer his, her or their policies, fuch affignments or transfers fhall
be brought to the office, and be entered within four weeks after fuch affignment
or transfer, and on default thereof, the benefit of fuch transferred infurance fhall
be loft, and all perfons, to whom transfers are made, before the fame are entered
fhall fign and execute thefe prefents; provided neverthelefs, that fuch affignments
or transfers may be admitted to be entered after the expiration of the faid four
weeks, if the directors fhall allow thereof, and not otherwife, and in that cafe
the benefit of infurance fhall not be loft. ART. 16. That all and every the
members of this fociety who fhall fuftain any lofs or damage by fire, fhall give
immediate notice thereof to the directors, or to the clerk of this fociety, at their
office, to the end that the directors, their officers or agents, may view, inquire
into and examine the fame. ART. 17. That the directors for the time being
fhall, with all convenient fpeed, on all alarms of fire, repair to, and if poffible
convene together at, fome convenient place near where the fire fhall be, to con-
fult and determine upon fuch methods of proceeding as may in fuch cafe moft
conduce to the fafety of the fociety, and of the public. ART. 18. Every houfe
that is by means of fire deftroyed from the firft floor upwards, fhall be deemed as
demolifhed, and it fhall be lawful for the directors in fuch cafe either to order the
money infured thereon to be paid within three months after the notice given of
the lofs as aforefaid, or to rebuild the fame with all convenient fpeed, gilding,
hiftory painting and carving excepted. ART. 19. That the directors for the time
being fhall make up, and report to the general meeting to be held on the firft
Monday in April yearly, the ftate of the office and its accounts, and afcertain
and report the profits or loffes which have arifen or been incurred in the pre-
ceding year. ART. 20. That the intereft arifing from the ftock fhall be carried
to one common account, and be applied, as directed by the twenty-firft article of
thefe prefents, in difcharging the expences of the office, and the furplus be ap-
propriated for the purpofe, as directed in the thirteenth article of thefe prefents,
of fatisfying any lofs, when a contribution amounting to one half of the depofitc
money fhall be infufficient, and out of the refidue fhall be made good any part
of the depofite money that may have been applied, as directed in like manner by
the aforefaid thirteenth article. ART. 21. For the better and immediate forming
and eftablifhing this fociety, and providing for and fecuring the good and regular
management of the affairs thereof, twelve of the prefent fobfenbers hereto shall
be the firft directors, and fo fhall be and continue to be direaors of this fociety
