fuch cafe it fhall and may be lawful for the juftices aforefaid, in the name of the
ftate, and for the ufe of the ftate, or of fuch perfon or perfons as may be intereft-
ed in fuch proceeding, on motion of the attorney-general, or either of his depu-
ties, to order and direct judgment to be entered againft fuch fheriff or coroner for
the fum in which the faid fheriff or coroner fhall be amerced, or for the amount
of any recognizance, or for the fine, penalty or forfeiture, and cofts, for which
judgment fhall have been entered againft the perfon or perfons taken on execution,
which refpective judgments fhall have the force and effect, to all intents and pur-
pofes, of any judgment rendered on the verdict of a jury.

CHAP.
LX.

II. And be it enacted, That in laying fuch amerciaments, the courts impofing
them fhall govern themfelves by fuch principles as, under all circumftances, fhall
appear to them to be reafonable, taking care, in all inftances, to keep the public
indemnified from all cofts and charges.

C H A P. LXI.
An ACT to explain an act, entitled, An act for the valuation of
real and perfonal property within this ftate, paffed at November
feffion, feventeen hundred and ninety-two.
WHEREAS doubts have been entertained whether, under the act of af-
fembly paffed in the year feventeen hundred and ninety-two, entitled,
An act for the valuation of real and perfonal property within this
ftate, veffels are affeffable or not; in order to clear up fuch doubts, and to render
the practice in every county of this ftate certain and uniform,

Preamble.

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That no licenfed vef-
fel whatever, above twenty tuns burthen, fhall be confidered as affeffable property
under the faid act.

III. And be it enacted, That wherever any fuch veffel or veffels has or have
been affeffed under the faid ad, and the owner or owners thereof charged there-
with, that the faid owner or owners of fuch veffel or veffels fhall be releafed and
difcharged from the faid affeffment by the commiffioners of the tax of the county
in which fuch valuation has been made.

C H A P. LXII.
A Further fupplement to the act refpecting the fettlers on the re-

ferved lands weft ward of Fort Cumberland.
WHEREAS it is reprefented to this general affembly, that appointing
commiffioners with power and authority to fettle and adjuft the feve-
ral and refpective boundaries of the fettlers lots to the weftward of
Fort Cumberland, will tend to prevent litigation amongft them; therefore,

Preamble,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That George Dent,
Benjamin Tomlinfon and John Hodge Bayard, be and they are hereby appointed
commiffioners for the purpofe of carrying this act into effect.

III. And be it enacted, That before the faid commiffioners fhall proceed in the
execution of the powers vefted in them by this act, they fhall take the following
oath, or affirmation, before fome juftice of the peace, to wit: " I, A. B. do
" fwear, (or affirm,) that I will fettle and adjuft the location of any lot or lots
" that I may be called on to fettle and adjuft, by virtue of the authority by this
" act vefted in me, agreeably to the true original location thereof, according to
" the evidence and circumftances which fhall be offered, or appear to me, with-
" out favour, affection or partiality, according to the beft of my experience and
" judgment, and will make a true return thereof. So help me God."

IV. And be it enacted, That the faid commiffioners, or any two of them, on
the application of the owner or owners of any of the faid lots, to fettle and efta-
blifh the boundaries of his, her or their lot or lots, fhall caufe advertifements to
