ad for the divifion of Wafhington county, and erecting a new one by the name
of Allegany, are found, by experience, to be inconvenient to the people of faid
county; therefore,
II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That after the firft
day of March next, the faid orphans court for faid county of Allegany, fhall
be held on the fecond Tuefday of January, April, July and October, in each
year.

C H A P. XVII.
An ACT for building a court-houfe and gaol for Allegany coun-
ty, at the town of Cumberland.
Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That Thomas Beall
of Samuel, John Lynn, William M'Mahon, George Dent and Benjamin
Tomlinfon, fhall be and are hereby appointed commiffioners for the pur-
pole of carrying this act into execution.

II. And be it enacted, That the four lots referved by the proprietor of the
town of Cumberland, on the weft fide of Will's creek, for the purpofe of erect-
ing public buildings in the faid county, fhall be hereafter vefted in the juftices of
Allegany county levy court, for the accommodation of faid county.
III. And be it enacted, That the juftices of the levy court of Allegany coun-
ty are hereby authorifed, directed and required, to affefs and levy on the property
of faid county, at the time of laying their public levies, the fum of fix hundred
pounds current money; that is to fay, the fum of two hundred pounds in the year
feventeen hundred and ninety-four, and the fum of two hundred pounds in the
year feventeen hundred and ninety-five, and the remaining fum of two hundred
pounds in the year feventeen hundred and ninety-fix, together with the fheriff's
commiffion for collecting the fame, for the purpofe of erecting the court-houfe
and gaol aforefaid; which faid affeffments, fo as aforefaid to be made and levied,
fhall be collected by the collector of the county for the time being, in the fame
manner that other public charges are by law collected; and the faid fums of mo-
ney, when fo as aforefaid refpectively collected, fhall be paid by fuch collector to
the aforefaid commiffioners, or the major part of them, or to their order or orders ;
which faid commiffioners, or the major part of them, are hereby authorifed and re-
quired to receive and apply the fame to the ufes and purpofes by this act directed.

IV. And be it enacted, That the faid commiffioners, or the major part of
them, fhall be and are hereby authorifed and required to contract and agree for
the building of the faid court-houfe and gaol, and to direct the plans of the fame;
which faid court-houfe and gaol, when erected, finifhed and completed, fhall be
ufed, taken, held and deemed to be, the proper court-houfe and gaol of Allegany
county.

V. And be it enacted, That in cafe any of the faid commiffioners fhall die,
remove, refufe, or difcontinue to ad, the remaining commiffioners, or the majo-
rity of them, fhall appoint one or more perfon or perfons, as the cafe may be, to
fill up the vacancy.

VI. And be it enacted, That the faid commiffioners, or the major part of them,
fhall render a full and fair account to the levy court of faid county of the receipts
and expenditures of all monies which fhall be by them received and expended in
virtue of this ad.

C H A P. XVIII.
An ACT to eftablifh the road leading from Crooked Run, in
Worcefter county, to Saint-Martin's Landing, as a public road.
WHEREAS fundry inhabitants of the upper part of Worcefter county,
by their petition to this general affembly have reprefented, that by
virtue of an order iffued out of Worcefter county court, a private
road was laid out (by the furveyor of the county) from Crooked Run to Saint-
