THOMAS SIM LEE, Efquire, Governor.

1792.

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That his excellency
Thomas Sim Lee, Efquire, be and he is hereby authorifed and empowered, on
the purchaie money for the faid property fo fold being paid, to execute and ac-
knowledge, to the purchafer or purchafers of the fame, a deed or deeds for con-
veying the faid property to the faid purchafer or purchafers, in fee, which deed
or deeds, fo executed and acknowledged, fhall be as good and effectual in law as
if the faid deed or deeds had been executed by any three or more of the truftees
in the act aforefaid mentioned, any thing in the law to which this is a fupplement
to the contrary notwithstanding.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the relief of infol-
vent debtors.

WHEREAS doubts have arifen with fome of the juftices of the peace
of this ftate, whether, under the act of one thoufand feven hundred
and feventy-four, to which this is a fupplement, they had not power
to relieve perfons from fines and forfeitures incurred for the breach of the penal
laws of this ftate, and this legiflature being willing to declare their opinion of the
law, therefore,

Preamble.

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That it fhall not be
lawful for any judge or juftices, in any county of this ftate, to relieve from con-
finement, by virtue of the faid law to which this is a fupplement, any perfon
who may be committed to the cuftody of any fheriff for any fine or forfeiture in-
currcd, or to be incurred, for the breach of any law of this ftate, or for the cofts
arifing on any profecution.

III. And be it enacted, That this law be and continue in full force as long as
the act to which it is a fupplement fhall continue.

Duration.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act to improve and repair
the ftreets in Elizabeth-town, in Wafhington county, and for
other purpofes therein mentioned.

cember 22.

WHEREAS, by the act, entitled, An act to improve and repair the
ftreets in Elizabeth-town, in Wafhington county, and for other pur-
pofes therein mentioned, commimoners were appointed to regulate the
pofting of footways in the fides of the ftreets, and paving the fame, and were em-
powered to remove nuifances in faid town, but not to remove the fame at the ex-
pence of the perfons caufing the fame; and the faid commiffioners complain to
this general affembly, that the faid footways are greatly injured by perfons riding
and leading horfes on the fame; and the faid commimoners have reprefented, that
the inhabitants of the faid town are frequently endangered by perfons ftraining
their horfes in the ftreets of faid town, and that frequent accidents happen in faid
town by the firing of guns and piftols therein, and that the houfes of faid town
are frequently in danger by perfons permitting their chimnies to catch fire during
dry feafons ;

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, that if any perfon
or perfons fhall ride or lead any horfe or horfes on the footways of the faid town,
except to enter any alley or gate, fuch perfon or perfons fhall forfeit the fum of
five fhillings current money.

III. And be it enacted, that if any perfon of perfons fhall ftrain any horfe or
horfes in the ftreets of faid town, fuch perfon or perfons fhall forfeit and pay the
fum of five fhillings current money for every fuch offence;

IV. And be it enacted, that if any peffon or perfons fhall fire any gun or pif-
tol in the faid town, fuch perfon or perfons fhall, for every fuch offence, forfeit
and pay the fum of five fhillings current money.
