ments; that Section 417 of said Code as enacted by Chapter 631 of
the Acts of 1949 be and it is hereby repealed; that new Section 417
be and it is hereby enacted, to stand in the place and stead of the
section so repealed; and that new Section 417A be and it is hereby
added to said Code, to follow immediately after Section 417 thereof,
all to read as follows:

416. (a) The Police Department of Anne Arundel County is hereby
created and established. It shall consist of:

(1)  The Anne Arundel County Police Force.

(2)  The Board of Police Examiners.

(3)  Such other employees and agencies as shall be authorized by
[law] the Board of County Commissioners.

(b) The Headquarters of the Police Department of Anne Arundel
County and its various sub-stations shall be located [at Ferndale.]
in such place or places as may be designated by the Board of Police
Examiners, subject to the approval of the Board of County Com-
missioners. The Board of County Commissioners are hereby author-
ized to construct or acquire the property or facilities necessary for
such headquarters or sub-stations.

[(c) The Sub-Stations of said department shall be constructed or
acquired by the Board of Police Examiners with the approval of the
County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County.

(d) No members of the Police Department of Anne Arundel County
shall be vested with police power other than the members of the
Police Force.]

417. Board of Police Examiners.

(a)  The Board of Police Examiners shall consist of 3 members,
each of whom shall have resided in Anne Arundel County for at
least 5 years and each of whom shall be a taxpayer upon real estate
in said county assessed for taxation in the amount of at least $5,000.00.

(b)  On May 31, 1959, the terms of the Board of Police Examiners
in office at the time shall be ended. On June 1, 1959, the Governor
shall appoint the members of the Board of Police Examiners from
a list of 6 names which shall be submitted to the Governor by the
Board of County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County. The Gov-
ernor may reject all of the names so submitted to him and call upon
the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County to submit addi-
tional lists of names.

(c)  The first members appointed to the said Board shall be ap-
pointed to serve terms as follows: One member for a term of 2 years;
one member for a term of 4 years and one member for a term of
6 years. Thereafter all members of the said board shall be appointed
for a term of six years from a list of 3 names which shall be sub-
mitted to the Governor by the Board of County Commissioners. The
Governor may reject all of the names so submitted to him and call
upon the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County to submit
additional lists of names.
