94                                Laws of Maryland                        [Ch. 84

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 136 (a) of Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dorchester County", sub-title
"Circuit Court", sub-heading "Court Stenographer"; being also codi-
fied as Section 29 (a) of Article 20 of said Code, title "Somerset
County", sub-title "Circuit Court", sub-heading "Court Stenogra-
pher"; being also codified as Section 20 (a) of Article 23 of said Code,
title "Wicomico County", sub-title "Circuit Court", sub-heading
"Court Stenographer"; being also codified as Section 49 (a) of Article
24 of said Code, title "Worcester County", sub-title "Circuit Court",
sub-heading "Court Stenographer", as each of said several sections
was last amended by Chapter 471 of the Acts of 1953, be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

136. (a) The salary of said stenographer shall be Five Thousand
Dollars ($5,000) per year, the said salary to be paid as follows: The
County Commissioners of Dorchester County, Wicomico County,
Somerset County and Worcester County shall each pay the sum of
[One Thousand] Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars thereof, said
payments to be made in quarterly installments during the service, on
the presentation of the certificate of the clerk of either county or of
either of said judges of said court, to the County Commissioners
certifying to the services of said court stenographer. And the said
County Commissioners of the several counties are hereby directed
and empowered to provide for the payment of their several portions
of the salary of the said stenographer at once on presentation of said
certificates.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That any salary payments
made to the said Court Stenographer or Court Stenographers by the
Boards of County Commissioners of the several counties of Dor-
chester, Somerset, Wicomico or Worcester, or any of them, in excess
of the amount expressly stipulated for each such county to pay under
the terms of Chapter 471 of the Acts of 1953 are validated and con-
firmed in all respects as having been legally made.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
