J. MILLARD TAWES, GOVERNOR                                93

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

Approved March 3, 1959.

CHAPTER 83
(Senate Bill 51)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 136(a) of
Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Dorchester County", sub-title "Circuit Court", sub-
heading "Court Stenographer"; being also codified as Section
29 (a) of Article 20 of said Code, title "Somerset County", sub-
title "Circuit Court", sub-heading "Court Stenographer"; being
also codified as Section 20(a) of Article 23 of said Code, title
"Wicomico County", sub-title "Circuit Court", sub-heading "Court
Stenographer"; being also codified as Section 49(a) of Article 24
of said Code, title "Worcester County", sub-title "Circuit Court",
sub-heading "Court Stenographer", as each of said several sections
was last amended by Chapter 471 of the Acts of 1953, correcting
an omission in the enactment of the said Act of 1953 with respect
to the portion of the salary of the Court Stenographer paid by
each of the several Counties of Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico
and Worcester; and validating and confirming certain payments
made to the said Court Stenographer or Stenographers by the
Boards of County Commissioners of the several Counties of Dor-
chester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester.

Whereas, For many years the salary of the Court Stenographer
serving the Circuit Courts in the Counties of Dorchester, Somerset,
Wicomico and Worcester has been jointly and equally divided by the
Boards of County Commissioners of these several counties; and

Whereas, When the salary of this position was increased from
$4,000 to $5,000 by Chapter 471 of the Acts of 1953, no change was
made in the payment required of each county; and

Whereas, This inadvertent omission should be corrected in order
to remove all possible doubts that each of the four counties should
contribute the sum of $1,250 annually toward the compensation of
the Court Stenographer; and

Whereas, It is desirable to validate and confirm salary payments
made to the Court Stenographer or Court Stenographers by the
Boards of County Commissioners of the several counties of Dor-
chester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester to the extent that such
salary payments may have been in excess of those authorized by
Chapter 471 of the Acts of 1953; now, therefore
