criminal cases, an annual salary of $600.00; but in Allegany County,
the County Commissioners shall appoint four constables at large for
two trial magistrates who sit for the trial of cases in the City of
Cumberland; one of said constables, shall receive an annual salary
of not less than twenty-one hundred and sixty dollars ($2,160.00),
one shall receive an annual salary of not less than eighteen hundred
dollars ($1,800.00), one shall receive an annual salary of not less than
fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00) in lieu in each case of all crim-
inal costs and fees, and one shall receive an annual salary of twelve
hundred dollars ($1,200.00) plus all fees and costs allowed by law
for all services performed by him in civil and criminal cases, and
the County Commissioners of Allegany County may increase the
compensation of said con-stables or appoint additional constables at
large for trial magistrate in said county and provide for the com-
pensation of such constables either by the fees prescribed by law or
by such annual salary in lieu of fees, as the County Commissioners,
in their discretion, may determine; provided, however, that the pro-
visions of this section shall not apply to the counties of Carroll, Fred-
erick, Montgomery, Wicomico, Prince George's, Harford, Cecil and
Calvert, and in Anne Arundel the County Commissioners may ap-
point two constables at salaries of not more than [six hundred dol-
lars ($600.00)] twelve hundred dollars ($1,200.00) per year.

(J) IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY THE OFFICE OF SUBSTI-
TUTE TRIAL MAGISTRATE SHALL RECEIVE A SALARY OF
NOT LESS THAN $1,200.00 PER YEAR.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 124 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington County (1957 Edi-
tion, being Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), title "Washington County", sub-title "Circuit Court",
relating to the terms of court and method of selecting the term in
Washington County, and relating generally to the Circuit Court
for Washington County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 124 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington
County (1957 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Washington County", sub-title "Circuit
