Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this section is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

CHAPTER 4
(Senate Bill 12)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 36(c) of
Article 73B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Pensions", sub-title "Social Security Benefits", to provide
specifically that the term "employee" as used or referred to in the
sub-title relating to Social Security shall include officers of the
State of Maryland and shall not include members of the State
Police Retirement System.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 36(c) of Article 73B of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Pensions", sub-title "Social Security
Benefits", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
36.
(c) The term "employee" includes an officer or employee of the
State of Maryland and an officer or employee of a political sub-
division of the State, including those officers and employees of a
political subdivision who are not eligible for membership in a
retirement or pension system operated by a political subdivision [.]
, but not including members of the State Police Retirement System.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
