that modifications of the agreement between the State of Mary-
land and the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare relating
to coverage under the Federal Old Age and Survivors' Insurance
System shall be effective as to services performed between certain
dates, and relating generally to the services as to which modifi-
cations of such agreement shall be effective.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(a) (3) of Article 73B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Pensions", sub-title "Social Security
Benefits", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

37(a)

(3) Such agreement shall be effective with respect to services in
employment covered by the agreement performed after a date speci-
fied therein, but in no case on a date prior to January 1, 1951, or
in no event may it be effective with respect to any services performed
prior to the first day of the calender year in which such agreement
is entered into or in which the modification of the agreement making
it applicable to such services, is entered into except that a modifi-
cation entered into after December 31, 1954, and prior to January
1, 1958, may be effective with respect to services performed after
December 31, 1954, or after a later date specified in such modifi-
cation; and except that a modification entered into after December
31, 1957, but prior to January 1, 1960, may be effective with respect
to the services performed after December 31, 1955, or after a later
date specified in such modification;

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 6
(Senate Bill 15)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 9 (7)
of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-title "What Shall Be Taxed and
Where", renewing a tax exemption heretofore granted for certain
real estate acquired and held for future use and not for investment
by any hospital or asylum not organized or conducted for profit.
