Whereas, from its context, the cross reference obviously should
be to Sections 435 and 437, this error arising from the recent enact-
ment of what is now Section 436 relating to the short form of in-
dictments under the perjury law; now, therefore
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 438 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Perjury",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
438. Subornation of perjury.
Any person who shall procure another to make a false oath or
affirmation in any of the cases embraced in Sections [436] 435 and
437 of this article shall be deemed guilty of subornation of perjury.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 57
(House Bill 49)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 555 of
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Taxicabs", providing
that the crime of refusing to pay fare on taxicabs and other com-
mon carriers shall also apply to Washington County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 555 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Taxi-
cabs", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
555.
Any person who engages and accepts transportation in a public
taxicab or other vehicle operated as a common carrier, under any
conditions whereby the charge therefor is not paid in advance, and
who wilfully refuses to pay the proper charges at the conclusion of
such transportation, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and
upon conviction thereof shall be subject to a fine of not more than
fifty dollars for each such offense. Nothing in this section shall be con-
strued to prevent the owner or operator of any such common carrier
from making a special agreement with the person who engaged and
accepted transportation, for the subsequent payment of the charges
