shall be entitled to [an exemption from all taxes levied against
said property by the County Commissioners of Allegany County]
have the sum of Thirty-five Hundred Dollars ($3500.00) deducted
from the assessed valuation of said property for the purpose of
county real estate taxes levied against said property by the county
commissioners of Allegany County, provided, however, that this
exemption shall not apply to any person or persons having a life
estate in said exempted property nor to any property where the
aggregate income of all persons residing therein and related to the
applicant is in excess of thirty-six hundred dollars ($3600.00) in
a calendar year; and provided further that no person receiving public
assistance
OR PUBLIC WELFARE ASSISTANCE benefits shall be
eligible for this exemption; and provided further that if said taxable
real estate is owned by tenants by the entirety, only one such exemp-
tion shall be allowed; provided further, such exemption shall be
allowed only if the combined gross income of said tenants by the
ontirey
ENTIRETY does not exceed twelve hundred dollars
($1200.00) for any one year; provided further, that such exemp-
tion shall be allowed if either one or both of said tenants
BY THE
ENTIRETY are sixty-five (65) years of age or more, or if either
one or both of said tenants
BY THE ENTIRETY shall have resided
on such property for the preceding five years; provided further, how-
ever, that only one such exemption shall be allowed on any real
estate taxable hereunder.

Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 503
(House Bill 770)

AN ACT to add new Section 534 534A to Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments",
sub-title "Sabbath Breaking", to follow immediately after Section
534 thereof, allowing the participation in and the operation of
certain activities on Sundays in Howard County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 534A be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and
Punishments", sub-title "Sabbath Breaking", to follow immediately
after Section 534 thereof, and to read as follows:

534A. Within the boundaries of Howard County and on the first
day of the week, commonly called Sunday, nothing contained in
Sections 492 and 533
522 of this Article shall be construed as pro-
