to follow immediately after Section 202 thereof, and to read as
follows:
202A.
The Economic Development Commission of Washington County
is hereby created for the purpose of advancing the general welfare
of the people through programs and activities to develop Washington
County's natural resources and economic opportunities pertaining
to commerce, agriculture, forestry, MINERAL EXTRACTION AND
PROCESSING, transportation, travel, tourism and recreation, and
to cooperate and offer assistance to existing industries and busi-
nesses, and to promote and encourage the establishing and locating
of new industries and businesses in Washington County and other
matters intended to foster and develop gainful employment and the
pursuit of happiness of all who are now or may hereafter be resi-
dents of Washington County.
202B.
The Commission shall consist of not less than eleven nor more
than fifteen members, who shall be appointed by the Board of County
Commissioners. The members shall represent a cross-section of the
economic composition of Washington County and shall be selected
because of their known experience and interest in the development
of Washington County. Those organizations representing the same
categoric interest shall jointly send to the County Commissioners
a list of not less than two nor more than three names of persons
duly qualified and interested in serving on the Commission. There
shall be on the Commission one member chosen from each of the
following categories: Agriculture, Banking, Contracting, Labor,
Manufacturing, Real Estate, Retailing, Transportation, Travel and
Tourist, and two from the public at large. The County Commis-
sioners shall not select any person not on a list submitted by inter-
ested organizations except for the two positions representing the
public at large. The public at large positions on the Commission can
be made by any resident of Washington County by submitting in
writing to the County Commissioners nominations and the County
Commissioners shall give all reasonable and fair consideration to the
nominations submitted but are not required to choose from names
submitted for the public at large positions on the Commission. The
Commission when it deems necessary for the successful operation of
its program shall determine what other categoric interests should be
represented on the Commission, and shall ask the County Commis-
sioners to select a person to represent the said categoric interest by
following the procedure as outlined in this section and provided that
no more than the maximum number of members as set forth in this
section shall be appointed to the Commission.
202C.
The members of the Commission shall serve for two years from
the effective date of this legislation and are eligible for reappoint-
ment. They shall serve without compensation but shall be reim-
bursed for necessary travel and other expenses incurred in the per-
formance of their duties. The Commission shall select from its own
membership a chairman, vice-chairman, and a secretary-treasurer
to serve a term of one year and to be eligible for reelection provided
