J. MILLARD TAWES, GOVERNOR                           441

"Operation of Vehicles Upon Highways", declaring that nothing
in Article 66½ shall be construed to prohibit towns and cities
not subject to the school bus provisions of the article from enact-
ing legislation upon the subject of school buses.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 268A be and it hereby added to Article 66½ of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Motor Ve-
hicles", sub-title "Operation of Vehicles Upon Highways", to read
as follows:

268A. Nothing contained in this article shall be construed to
prohibit towns and cities not subject to the school bus provisions
of this article from enacting legislation upon the subject of school
buses within the reasonable exercise of their police powers.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

Approved April 3, 1959.

CHAPTER 329
(House Bill 322)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (h) of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact", sub-title "State's At-
torney", and adding new sub-section 40(h)(l) to said Article 10,
providing for compensation and expenses for State's Attorney and
the Assistant State's Attorney of Harford County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (h) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact",
sub-title "State's Attorney", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments; and that new sub-section 40(h)(l) be
and it is hereby added to said Article 10 thereof, both sections to
read as follows:

40.

(h) Cecil, [Harford,] Talbot and Wicomico counties.—The State's
Attorney of Cecil County shall receive an annual salary of $5,000.
The State's Attorney of [Harford,] Talbot and Wicomico counties
shall receive an annual salary of $4,000. The State's Attorney of
Cecil County shall receive an appropriation of $500, to be used for
special work and the employment of extra help, said funds to be
spent only with the approval of the judge of the Circuit Court of
