CHAPTER 318
(House Bill 237)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 280 (q)
of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-title "Income Tax", providing for
an exclusion from State Income Taxes for all payments received
by policemen and firemen from pension systems.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 280 (q) of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-title "Income
Tax", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

(q) Payments received by policemen and firemen from pension
systems [for injuries sustained in the line of duty] FOR INJURIES
OR DISABILITIES ARISING OUT OF AND IN THE COURSE
OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT AS POLICEMEN OR FIREMEN.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

(House Bill 240)
AN ACT to add new Section 275 (a) (9) to Article 48A of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Insurance",
sub-title "Fraternal Beneficiary Associations", to follow immedi-
ately after Section 275 (a) (8) thereof, relating to benefits for
members and their families under fraternal beneficiary insurance
and relating generally thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 275 (a) (9) be and it is hereby added to Article
48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Insurance", sub-title "Fraternal Beneficiary Associations", to follow
immediately after Section 275 (a) (8) thereof, and to read as
follows:

(9) Any benefits authorized in this section, or combination thereof,
may be provided on the lives of membes MEMBERS or, upon appli-
