The Commissioners shall serve without compensation for their
duties, but are SHALL BE reimbursed for necessary travel and
other expenses incurred in the performance of their duties. The first
members of the commission shall be appointed for terms as follows:
One member for a term of one year, two for a term of two years,
two for a term of four years, and two for a term of six years,
until their successors are appointed and qualified. As the terms of
the commissioners so appointed expire, their successors are ap-
pointed, each for a term THE COMMISSION SHALL BE AP-
POINTED FOR TERMS AS FOLLOWS: THREE MEMBERS
SHALL BE APPOINTED FOR TERMS OF ONE YEAR EACH;
THREE MEMBERS SHALL BE APPOINTED FOR TERMS OF
TWO YEARS EACH; THREE MEMBERS SHALL BE APPOINT-
ED FOR TERMS OF FOUR YEARS EACH; AND THREE MEM-
BERS SHALL BE APPOINTED FOR TERMS OF SIX YEARS
EACH OR UNTIL THEIR SUCCESSORS ARE APPOINTED AND
QUALIFIED. AS THE TERMS OF THE COMMISSIONERS
INITIALLY APPOINTED EXPIRE THEIR SUCCESSORS
SHALL BE APPOINTED EACH FOR A TERM of six years, or
until their successors are appointed and qualified. Commissioners
shall be eligible for reappointment. Upon the death, disability, resig-
nation, or removal of any commissioner, the Governor shall appoint
a person to serve for the unexpired term. The FROM TIME TO
TIME THE Governor shall designate one member of the commission
as chairman and the chairman shall serve for a period of four years
, WHO SHALL HOLD SUCH OFFICE AT THE PLEASURE OF
THE GOVERNOR.
259. The Governor, upon the recommendation of the Commission,
shall appoint a director of the Department of Economic Develop-
ment. THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR SHALL NOT BE SUB-
JECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 64A OF THIS CODE.
The Director DIRECTOR shall be selected because of his known
experience and interest in the development of natural resources and
TOURIST AND industrial opportunities. The commission shall fix
the compensation of the director at an amount not to exceed
$15,000.00 annually. HE SHALL RECEIVE SUCH SALARY AS
PROVIDED IN THE BUDGET FROM TIME TO TIME. The
director shall serve as secretary of the commission, shall attend the
meetings of the commission, shall be chief administrative officer of
the Department and shall have general charge of the work of the
commission, subject to its orders and directions.
260. It shall be the duty of the commission to:
(1) Investigate and assemble information pertinent to the eco-
nomic resources DEVELOPMENT, industrial opportunities and
economic resources of the State, including raw materials, power and
water resources, transportation facilities, markets, labor, banking
and financing facilities, industrial sites and other fields of research.
(2) Encourage location of new industrial enterprises in the State
and the RETENTION AND expansion of present enterprises IN
COORDINATION WITH LOCAL GOVERNING BODIES AND
LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES.
(3) Encourage development of recreational areas and encourage
tourist business in the State, making the public aware of the State's
