expenses or obligations; provided that the total indebtedness incurred
under this section shall never exceed at any one time the sum of
[One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00)] Two Hundred
Thousand Dollars $200,000.00.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 155
(Senate Bill 162)

AN ACT to add new Section 217 to the Code of Public Laws of Har-
ford County (1957 Edition), title "Harford County", sub-title
"County Commissioners", to follow immediately after Section 216
thereof, establishing a Harford County Beautification Committee,
defining the powers and duties of said Commission, and providing
that the commissioners shall serve without compensation.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section 217 be and it is hereby added to the Harford
County Code (1957 Edition), title "Harford County", sub-title
"County Commissioners", to follow immediately after Section 216
thereof and to read as follows:

217. Harford County Beautification Committee.

The Harford County Beautification Committee is hereby estab-
lished. It shall be composed of six members selected by the County
Commissioners, who shall name a resident from each election dis-
trict of Harford County. The terms of said commissioners shall be
four years in duration or until their successors are appointed; pro-
vided that the terms of the first commissioners shall expire on De-
cember 81, 1962. The members of the commission shall serve without
compensation. The County Commissioners shall appoint the chair-
man, who shall call an organizational meeting promptly after taking
office. The commission shall be a governmental corporation charged
with the duties herein set forth and it shall meet at least four times
yearly.

The duties of the Commission shall be as follows:

(1)    To survey the public roads, parks, and other public facilities
to ascertain whether they are being kept free from trash and refuse.

(2)    To provide active leadership for clean-up drives in Harford
County and in such efforts to cooperate with the county highway
department, private persons, the police and other public agencies in
Harford County.
