1444 Joint Resolutions
NO. 14
(House Joint Resolution 10)
House Joint Resolution requesting the Governor of Maryland to ap-
point a Commission to study the problem of expansion of the
University of Maryland.
Whereas, Conservative estimates indicate that the University of
Maryland's student enrollment will double by 1970; and
Whereas, It is known that the existing facilities as now constituted
both at College Park and at the University Campus in Baltimore
will be totally inadequate to provide for said increased enrollment;
and
Whereas, It may become necessary to set up additional campuses
of the University of Maryland at sites other than the existing
campuses; and
Whereas, The immediate awareness of this problem and a full
scale study of the possible solutions is extremely necessary at this
time to insure that the educational facilities of the University of
Maryland will be adequate for the needs of future Maryland col-
lege students; now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Governor be requested to appoint a special Commission of not less
than 7 nor more than 12 members, a majority of whom shall be
graduates of state colleges or universities AND ONE OF WHOM
SHALL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
MARYLAND OR HIS DULY DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE,
to conduct a thorough analysis and study of the problem of future
expansion of the facilities of the University of Maryland and to
make recommendations of the steps needed to meet and handle the
problems;
And be it further resolved, That the Board of Regents of the
University of Maryland, the State Board of Education, and the
State Planning Commission be and they are hereby requested to
give all possible assistance and information to said Commission
for the purpose of conducting said study, including but not limited
to the production of such actuarial data and analyses as the Com-
mission may require;
And be it further resolved, That all officials and agencies be and
they are hereby requested to furnish whatever information and as-
sistance may be needed to the end that a report, with any recom-
mendations deemed appropriate by the Commission, be presented
to the 1960 Session of the General Assembly.
Approved April 3, 1959.
