TIVE COUNCIL, and the members of the General Assembly not
later than October 1, 1959.

House Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to appoint a Com-
mission to study the ways and means of financing a convention hall
at Ocean City, Maryland, which would provide a suitable structure
for housing business and professional conventions, cultural con-
ferences, industrial exhibits, trade shows, and sports events, as
well as stimulating further tourist trade and income for the State
of Maryland.
Whereas, Maryland possesses the finest ocean beach on the At-
lantic Coast at Ocean City, Maryland; and
Whereas, Ocean City has ideal facilities for ocean bathing and
fishing and other wholesome recreation, and is ideally situated in
location for conventions; and
Whereas, Many Maryland organizations are forced to go outside
the State to hold their summer conventions because of the lack of
sufficient meeting space at Ocean City; and
Whereas, It would be a great financial benefit to the State of
Maryland if these various conventions were held there; now, there-
fore be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Governor
appoint a commission to study the ways and means for the financing
of a convention hall in Ocean City; that the commission utilize the
services of existing local, quasi-public, and State agencies and lay
and public officials in conducting its study; and that the commission
report the results of its study and its recommendations for financing
the project, by public resources, public authority, private resources,
or a combination of these possibilities, to the Governor, the Legis-
lative Council, and the members of the General Assembly not later
than October 1, 1959.
