Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (e-a) of Section 40 of Article 10 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1956 Cumulative Supplement), title "Attorneys
at Law and Attorneys in Fact", sub-title "State's Attorney", be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
40.
(e-a). Howard County.—The State's attorney of Howard County
shall receive an annual salary of [$2,600.00] $4,000.00. The State's
attorney may appoint an assistant State's attorney who shall serve
at the pleasure of the State's attorney at an annual compensation
of [$1,200.00] $2,400.00 $2,000.00.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby declared
to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate preser-
vation of the public health and safety, and having been passed by a
yea and nay vote, supported by three fifths of all the members elected
to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland, the
same shall take effect from the date of its passage.
SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT NOTHING
IN THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO AFFECT OR CHANGE
THE SALARY OF THE INCUMBENT STATE'S ATTORNEY
DURING HIS PRESENT TERM.
SEC. 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT THIS ACT
SHALL TAKE EFFECT JUNE 1, 1957.

Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement),
title "Crimes and Punishment", sub-title "Larceny", providing
for both fine and imprisonment where there has been a conviction
of larceny.

ceny", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,

405. Every person convicted of the crime of larceny to the value
of one hundred dollars or upwards, or an as accessory thereto before
