the amount of the deficit incurred in that year and/or the additional
amount needed by said Company for the next ensuing year, which
total sum shall be levied against the taxpayers of Middletown in the
Third Election District of Frederick County. MONIES SO COL-
LECTED FROM THE SAID LEVY SHALL BE PAID OVER
SEMI-ANNUALLY TO THE MIDDLETOWN VOLUNTEER FIRE
COMPANY.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall not become
effective until it shall have been submitted to the qualified voters of
the Third Election District of Frederick County at the congressional
election to be held in Frederick County in November, 1958. There
shall be printed on the ballots to be used at said election, the title of
this Act and underneath said title on separate lines a square or box
or lever opposite the words "For Fire Tax", and a corresponding
square or box or lever to the right of and opposite the words "Against
Fire Tax", so that the voters shall be able to designate his or her
decision for or against said Fire Tax. If a majority of the votes
cast on said question shall be "For Fire Tax", then this Act shall be-
come immediately effective. If a majority of the votes cast on said
question shall be "Against Fire Tax", then this Act shall be null and
void and of no effect whatsoever.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 653(c)
and 653 (d) of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition and 1956 Supplement}, title "Natural Resources",
sub-title "Oysters and Clams", providing that the oath required
prerequisite to obtaining a tonging license may be taken before a
Notary Public of the county wherein the applicant resides.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 653 (c) and 653 (d) of Article 66C of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition and 1956 Supplement), title "Natu-
ral Resources", sub-title "Oysters and Clams" be and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(c) How to apply for license.—Every applicant for a tonging
license shall be required to appear before the clerk of the circuit
court of the county or a Notary Public in and for said county wherein
