CHAPTER 35
(Senate Bill 85)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 38 (a) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", increasing
the salary of the Sheriff of Allegany County, to be effective at the
beginning of the term of office next after the election in the
month of November, 1958.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 38 (a) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1956 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
38. (a) Allegany County.—The Sheriff of Allegany County shall
receive an annual salary of [$4,000] $4,800.
The sheriff shall appoint five (5) deputies at an annual salary of
not less than $3,300 each; one of said deputies shall be assigned to
the sheriff to attend the magistrate for juvenile causes to execute his
process, orders and directions, and when not so engaged, to perform
such other duties as the sheriff may require.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing herein shall be
construed to change or affect the salary of the sheriff in office at the
time this Act becomes effective. The increased salary herein provided
shall begin as of the start of the term of office of the sheriff elected
in Allegany County in the month of November, 1958.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 36
(Senate Bill 87)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 114 (b)
of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supple-
ment), title "Public Education", sub-title "Teachers' Retirement
System", clarifying the provisions of this section by correcting a
reference to its applicability.
Whereas, in Sub-section (b) of Section 114 in Article 77 of the
Annotated Code (1956 Supplement), it is provided "that this section
shall apply only in Carroll County and Wicomico County"; and
Explanation: Italics indicate new matter added to existing law.
[Brackets] indicate matter stricken from existing law.
