in each of the counties of said circuit for approximately twenty-
five years, and
Whereas, he is now approaching the age of retirement and can
not be expected to indefinitely perform the exacting task which he
has acceptably handled for so many years, and
Whereas, because his compensation has been upon a per diem
basis, he has no credit for retirement pay, and because his compen-
sation prior to 1951 was too meager to permit him to provide ade-
quate security for his years of retirement, and
Whereas, it is the sense of the General Assembly, plans should
now be made for the ultimate retirement of Robert G. MacCartee,
and for his retirement compensation, now therefore
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be added to each of the Articles of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition) dealing with Cal-
vert County, Charles County, and St. Mary's County respectively,
and to the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County
(1953 Edition), said section to be known as Section 72B of Article
5 of said Code, title "Calvert County", sub-title "Circuit Court", to
follow immediately after Section 72A: as Section 37 of Article 9 of
said Code, title "Charles County", sub-title "Circuit Court", sub-
heading "Stenographer", said section to follow immediately after
Section 36; as Section 45B of Article 19 of said Code, title "St.
Mary's County", sub-title "Circuit Court", sub-heading "Court Sten-
ographer", to follow immediately after Section 45A; and as Section
288-A of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County
(1953 Edition) being Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland, title "Prince George's County", sub-title "Circuit
Court", sub-heading "Court Stenographer", said section to follow
immediately after Section 288; said new section to read as follows:
72B, 37, 45B, 288-A. Robert G. MacCartee is hereby authorized
to retire from his position as Court Reporter in the Counties of the
Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland upon reaching the age of
seventy years, and the Judges of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of
Maryland are hereby authorized mid empowered by appropriate
order to provide for the retirement of Robert G. MacCartee from
his position as Court Reporter in said Circuit at any time after the
passage of this Act.
In the event of such retirement, he shall be paid from the date
thereof retirement compensation at the rate of $2,400.00 per year,
said compensation to be payable one half by the County Commis-
sioners of Prince George's County, and the remainder to be paid
equally by the County Commissioners of Calvert, Charles, and St.
Mary's Counties, respectively.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That a new section to be
known as Section 288-B of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1953 Edition) Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince George's County", sub-title
"Circuit Court", sub-heading "Court Stenographer", to follow im-
mediately after Section 288-A, said section to read as follows:
