Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 250
(House Bill 217)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section (d)
of Section 176 of Article 66½ of the Anotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition) title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Operation of Ve-
hicles Upon Highways", providing that the maximum speed limit
on dual lane highways of a controlled and limited access character
shall be sixty miles per hour unless a lower speed shall be desig-
nated by the State Roads Commission, and authorizing the State
Roads Commission to reduce the said maximum speed under certain
conditions.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (d) of Section 176 of Article 66½ of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland, title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Operation
of Vehicles Upon Highways", be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(d) No motor vehicle shall be operated upon any highway of this
State at a rate of speed greater than fifty miles per hour, or fifty-five
miles per hour on dual lane through highways [, under any circum-
stances or conditions.]; provided, however, that on dual lane high-
ways which are constructed as controlled or limited access highways
the maximum speed limit shall be sixty miles per hour unless a lower
maximum speed limit shall be designated by the State Roads Com-
mission. Whenever the State Roads Commission shall determine, as
a result of traffic, weather or other conditions, that the maximum
speed limit should be less than sixty miles per hour, it shall have the
authority by appropriate signing and giving notice thereof to reduce
said maximum speed limit to such speed as it shall deem proper.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
