Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 172
(House Bill 191)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, sub-section 12
(a) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edi-
tion), title "Public Education", sub-title "Formation of Boards",
and to repeal Section 3 of Chapter 364 of the Acts of 1951, pro-
viding for the election of members of the County Board of Edu-
cation of Montgomery County and for the overlapping of the terms
of said members and to repeal an inconsistent provision of said
Section 3 of Chapter 364 of the Acts of 1951, relating to election
of members of the County Board of Education of Montgomery
County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section 12 (a) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Public Education", sub-title "Formation
of Boards", be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

12.

(a) After January 1, 1952, the County Board of Education of
Montgomery County, shall be composed of seven members, qualified
voters of Montgomery County, who shall be chosen as follows: one
from each of the five Council Districts and two at large, and who
shall serve as hereinafter provided in this Section, provided, how-
ever, that the offices now held by the members of the Board of Edu-
cation on the effective date of this Act are abolished and the in-
cumbents exercising the functions and duties thereof on such date
shall hold office under the provisions of this Act as interim incum-
bents of the offices herein provided to serve for such terms as are
hereinafter specified and until their respective successors shall have
been elected and qualified.

The members of said Board shall be elected and hold office as
follows: The members from the first and third Council Districts and
the two members at large shall be elected in November of 1958, to
take office January 1, 1959, and shall serve for four years. The mem-
bers from the second, fourth and fifth Council Districts shall be
elected in November of 1958,
