wharf or bathing shore in a reckless manner or in a manner that
may endanger persons or property of watercraft.
[(a)] (b) More than six knots or reckless manner, etc.—It shall
be unlawful for any person to operate any boat on Seneca Creek,
Montgomery County, at a speed greater than six (6) knots, [or in
a reckless manner, or in such manner that may endanger the person
or property of others, or to come into any wharf or bathing shore in
a reckless manner or in a manner that may endanger persons or
property or watercraft]
[(b)] (c) Punishment.—Any person violating the provisions of
this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction fined not less than twenty-five dollars ($25.00) nor more than
[one] two hundred dollars [($100.00)] ($200.00), or imprisoned for
not more than thirty (30) days, or both, in the discretion of the
court or justice of the peace.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 171
(House Bill 190)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section (O)
(1) of Section 38 of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", increasing the annual salary of the Sheriff of Montgom-
ery County as of January 1,1959, AND PROVIDING AN ALLOW-
ANCE FOR EXPENSES UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 1958.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (O) (1) of Section 38 of Article 87 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland, title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

(O) (1) Until December 31, 1958, [The] the Sheriff of Montgomery
County shall receive an annual salary of $4,800 per year, and such
allowances FOR EXPENSES as the County Council of said County
shall provide from its annual budget; and the said Sheriff from and
after January 1, 1959, shall receive an annual salary of $7,500 per
year, [and the] The County Council of Montgomery County shall
provide an automobile for the use of the said Sheriff and his deputies
for the general public work of the office; the said automobile to be
